Brown girls aren’t protected. We are merely prevented from the potential of freedom. We are hindered in the name of protection. We are prey, raised and protected the way you would cattle. We are “protected” as long as we do not stray and until we are fit to serve our purpose. 

Protected not from wandering eyes and the male gaze. Protected in order to safeguard the lineage we carry in our names. Protected so that we do not ruin ourselves and lower our value in the martial market. Only understood for the role we ought to play and those that rebel from the suffocating shackles of patriarchy, forever remain the uncontrollable, venomous whores of society.
